Evan Butts is an Associate at the firm’s Philadelphia office where he works with the Construction and Civil Rights teams. He began his career at Bennett, Bricklin & Saltzburg LLC in September 2024. Before beginning at the firm, Evan served as law clerk to the Honorable Sander D. Friedman in the Family Division of the Burlington County Superior Court in New Jersey.
In 2023, Evan graduated with a dual degree from Villanova University: a Juris Doctor, with concentration in Litigation & Dispute Resolution, from the Charles Widger School of Law; and a Master of Public Administration from the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. While at Villanova Law, Evan worked as research assistant to the Dean, Mark Alexander, and to Professor Michelle Dempsey. He also worked as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable Judge Michael A. Newman in the Southern District of Ohio and to Administrative Judge Natasha Abel, of the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. For the Department of Public Administration, Evan worked as a research assistant to Professor Danielle Gadson.
Prior to attending law school, Evan was a researcher and lecturer in philosophy. He earned a Master’s degree (2008) and Ph.D. (2012) in philosophy from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and worked as a postdoctoral researcher in philosophy at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. His research focused on philosophical problems of knowledge, evidence, and cognitive science. In his teaching role, Evan taught a variety of courses in topics like ethics, philosophy of law, critical thinking, and Asian religious & philosophical traditions. He published three chapters from his dissertation, Externalist Epistemology and the Constitution of Cognitive Ability, in peer reviewed journals.
In 2007, Evan graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Georgia, where he majored in Cognitive Science. At the University of Georgia, Evan was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society and studied abroad in the United Kingdom at Oxford University.
In his spare time, Evan enjoys running half-marathons, practicing yoga, baking bread, and playing tennis.
